Re: steering - track rod ends welded to track rods???
Had some terminally stuck locking nuts on mine that had to be drilled/ground to bits despite copious oil, big spanners, hammers and heat cycles, but fortunately just the nuts were the problem. In preparation to re-assemble I did run a suitable die set quite slack up the thread of the steering rack (so as not to make for a loose fitment of the new track-rod end!) to properly clean it up.
I was also fitting Peter May top trunions which put on about 2 degrees of neg camber and with the geommetry this pulls in the top consequently toeing out the wheels and the forward location of the rack requires winding the track rod end on a bit further, but then fitted frontline telecopic kit that put ANOTHER couple of degrees on so started looking very knock-kneed and definitely OTT on the camber front, so have reverted to the original trunions with good bushing.
I digress - as part of the re-assembly I have used a nyloc as the lock nut, but with the nylon insert face inboard to the car as should help keep weather out of the end of the thread.
Lastly, the pattern of track rod ends I got suit my minis, but have a longer thread on the swivel joint that can then contact on the rim, or remove in-board stick-on wheel weights - I did check clearances rather than finding out the hard way!
