Re: Midget Mk. 1 Hardtop
BMC offered owners of MkI Midget's & MkII Sprite's two completely different hard tops. Illogically a rounded version for the Sprite, based on that for the MkI (frogeye), while the Midget hard-top was a totally new design, being flatter with an inset rear window and rather angular, more in keeping with the car's tail-end. They were never physically numbered as such, or carried any special identification, although I did see one once with a BMC sticker affixed, but that could have been fitted by it's retailer.
I do somewhere have the part number for this item, but since we moved in April, some of my things are proving difficult to find presently.
Currently there is an original MkI Midget hard-top for sale, which shows quite well the shape and design; http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C876019...
Beware also of the difference where the rear edge of the sidescreens meet the hardtop. One version uses the original side screens with a straight up trailing edge where the other use a modified sidescreen swept back to form a line with the door back edge!
And to help a little further I've attached here a period publicity shot where you'll see the two different designs!
Trusting this helps, at least initially, but please do come back to me if you need any further help.
