Previous thread on here was for a 67 midget with similar woes. Again, despite apparently solid connections, any weak connection can result in a cranking problem as the weak connection becomes less current-capable - something a starter motor definitely needs. Try cleaning up and working over all connections including battery negative to body, engine earth strap, starter solenoid connections as you've ruled out the starter. Remember engine gets to rock about a bit so a failing engine earth strap can make it intermittent.
