Very very early mk1 midget chassis 1064 with a 950 engine starting 8g9 R L99——-
It has initials stamped below the pressed engine serial number therefore I think maybe a factory silver seal replacement block rebuilt by the guy who’s intials are on the plate ?
As it’s not the original engine only in displacement I am thinking of fitting a 1275 mg engine I also have
Would it be better being a scarce car, to keep with the 950 or make it more practical for today’s roads with the 1275 ,. It has a ribbed gearbox fitted although I do have a smooth case as well
Re: Engine choice
Very much a matter of choice here. I have a Mk1 with 948 Engine and it's fine for occasional use. I guess it depends on what you are proposing to use the car for. As you are probably aware it sounds like it has already got a later (Rib case) gearbox fitted. Not unusual to find Engine and Gearbox swops from A35's, A40's and Minors etc. If you decide to fit a 1275 you should change the front brakes to disc set up too!
So long as you enjoy using the car that's the main thing. These early cars will never be practical for everyday use in today's traffic and on Motorways but I can't help smiling when I'm out round the lanes in mine!
How about submitting the details for our Car of the Month feature?
Look forward to seeing the car.
