Apologies if this is an old-hat question. After a major rebuild I seem to have lost the dipstick for my (1972) 1275 Midget. I'd quite like to get it started again and I can't seem to find any second hand (or new, for that matter) ones so can anyone tell me the relevant dimensions of the thing so I can knock something up. I've got an oil cooler, so it's not simply a case of adding the right amount of oil (I know that i could disconnect it etc, but I'd prefer not to do so, and in any case I'd still need a dipstick).
I will try and measure mine later in the week when I can crawl under the car cover.
You could always try someone like the Wrexam MG centre, they are always selling old parts.
for future reference
1275 Spridget dipstick
. the dipstick should have a washer and this washer obviously sits between the dipstick flange and the dipstick tube
. the dipstick tube sits 1 and ¼” (32 mm) out of the engine block
. millimetre measurements are rounded to whole figure
Length of dipstick – (from the underside of flange without washer) to:-
. ‘MAX’ line is 7 and 7/8” – (200 mm)
. ‘MIN’ line is 8 and 11/16” – (221 mm)
. end is 9 and 9/16" – (243 mm)
Distance from the bottom end of the dipstick to:-
. ‘MIN’ line is 7/8" – (22 mm)
. ‘MAX’ line is 1 and 11/16" – (43 mm)
Re: Re: Dipstick
I've just been back on the forum (after a very long time away) and noticed that I never thanked you for your response. Please accept my apologies for this - I don't know what happened to my acknowledgment but the info was much appreciated.
