I hope those of you that went to MG Live had a great time. I hope to include a write up on it next month.
As I start to write these notes, it’s not long since I have returned from a tour of Yorkshire with 4 other K series Midgets. What a fantastic county Yorkshire is. We stayed in a great pub called the Nags Head at Pickhill which provided a great central location for touring. Edward the landlord poured a wicked pint of Black Sheep too. Whilst the others returned home after the weekend Sharon and I remained in the area knocking up a total of 1200 miles during the week. Our next K series tour is already being planned by Messrs Cutler & Co.
Of interest possibly to some of you with children who are itching to drive your Midget, this week I have added my 25 year old daughter to my own Mk3 Midget. I was surprised when they said there would be no additional premium. I only paid £60 for the year! I had only just renewed the insurance on it too. She was over the moon and has been driving the lanes of Pembrokeshire ever since! It reminded of me 33 years ago when I first bought the MK3 and had exactly the same enthusiasm and still do.
I was also amazed at the prices of Spridgets sold at a recent Brightwells sale in Leominster, Herefordshire. A Mk 2 Midget sold for £8400 and a Frogeye sold for £15,700, both plus 10% commission. A good buy however was a nice 1500 Midget with just 43,000 miles on the clock that sold for £2,700 plus commission. I believe it is inevitable that the later rubber bumper Midgets will increase in value.
I still welcome any features that any of you might like to submit to me for the forthcoming editions of Safety Fast.
The Midget Register Run takes place on Sunday 1st September 2013, starting at Toddington Railway Station and finishing this year at Chavenage House www.chavenage.com and the Rolling Road session at CCK in East Sussex has been confirmed for the 9th November 2013. Contact the committee for further details.
This month’s picture shows a marketing photograph of the 1500 Midget on the harbourside at Tenby. Is that an Engelbert Humperdinck lookalike?
Well that’s it folks, I’m off to the Stelvio, snow permitting, with Scenic Car Tours. You can guess which car I am taking. Until the next time, happy Spridgeting.
